Bring the Updated Bottle Bill to a Vote

Bottle

Efforts to pass the updated bottle bill continue.  The updated bottle bill would extend the container deposit system that we have for soda cans and bottles to bottled water, iced tea and sports drinks. It would decrease litter - and increase recycling.  To keep up with the times and consumer’s tastes, the bottle bill must be updated

A coalition of environmental organizations is trying to increase support among legislators so that the bill can be brought to the floor for a vote.

More information about the Updated Bottle Bill can be found at the website of the Massachusetts Coalition to Update the Bottle Bill.

On Wednesday, July 20 there will be a public hearing at the State House.

TAKE ACTION!

Come to the State House to Show Your Support: Wed July 20, 2011

The Press Event begins at 9 am. Gather at the State House, Beacon Street entrance and show legislators our support. The Public Hearing begins at 10am in the Gardner Auditorium. Your participation is very important! Gardner Auditorium is large and we want legislators to see a room full of Bottle Bill supporters. You don't need to offer testimony - your presence at the hearing will speak volumes.

If you can't attend the hearing you can contact your State Representative and State Senator.
Ask them to Support the Updated Bottle Bill H890/S1650, sponsored by Rep. Alice Wolf/Sen. Cynthia Stone Creem. MASSPIRG provides a sample letter that can be edited and sent to your Legislators. Click here to determine who your State Representative or Senator is.

Has your City/Town passed a resolution of support? Click here to see the list that have. If yours isn't on the list, contact your City Council, Board of Aldermen, or Selectmen and ask them to pass a municipal resolution.

THANK YOU FOR HELPING BRING THE UPDATED BOTTLE BILL TO A VOTE
