WATER QUALITY

Talking Points to Discuss with City of Newton Board of Aldermen

Please call your Alderman by 5 pm, Wednesday May 17!

  • Newton residents are strong supporters of the environment, and want to help improve our local ponds, wetlands and the Charles River and ensure that our recreational areas continue to provide enjoyment and aesthetic beauty for our community.

  • Without a stormwater utility in place, Newton's stormwater program must compete for funds year after year with schools, police and fire budgets.
  • The City needs a stable and adequate source of revenue to address our local environmental problems of flooding, alteration or destruction of fisheries and wildlife habitat, and poor water quality.
  • Stormwater management is mandated by state and federal law; if Newton doesn't do the work, the City could be fined.
  • The fee is fair and I am willing to pay my share to help clean up our City's stormwater runoff.
