Early entrants to Run of the Charles event

The following local residents are among the early entrants in the 24th Run of the Charles Canoe and Kayak Race on Sunday, April 30, to benefit the Charles River Watershed Association (CRWA).
Terry Shirey and Philip Schneider, both of Wayland, have entered the 9-Mile Race, one of the five races held as part of the day-long celebration of improvements to the Charles River.
Robert Flanagan of Wayland and George Bates of Weston have entered in the 19-Mile Race.
Finally, Bob Kattef of Weston has entered in the 24-Mile Race.
The annual Run of the Charles Canoe & Kayak Race showcases the
ongoing improvements in the Charles River while drawing nearly 1,200 paddlers and thousands of spectators to enjoy a day on the river and features paddling races for all skill levels, from expert to novice.
The 24-Mile Relay Race draws corporate teams, and the 19-Mile, 9-Mile and 6-Mile races bring out recreational paddlers ages 12 and up.
Teams and individuals can register online at "www.active.com" by entering Run of the Charles in the "find event" window.
All races finish at the Finish Line Festival at Herter Park on Soldiers Field Road in Brighton. Admission is free to the Finish Line Festival which features food, music, awards, outdoor sports demonstrations, environmental exhibits and post-race picnics.
