CRWA’s Champions of the Charles 2011
Honoring John DeVillars, former U.S. EPA Regional Administrator
More than 200 friends and advocates of the Charles River gathered on Friday, September 30th to honor John DeVillars for his legendary perseverance and leadership in helping make the Charles River the cleanest urban river in America.
The gala also provided an opportunity to celebrate the Thiess International Riverprize awarded to the Charles River.
After a lively “not-so-silent” auction and delicious harvest dinner catered by Max Ultimate Food, Charles River Watershed Association’s Board President, Tom Sieniewicz welcomed guests.
Colleagues of John DeVillars including Ira Leighton, Deputy Regional Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 1; Mindy Lubber, president of Ceres; and Michael Dukakis, former Governor of Massachusetts, addressed DeVillars's hard work and achievements. 2009 Champion of the Charles awardee Douglas Foy presented the award to John DeVillars.
