CRWA Annual Earth Day Cleanup on the Charles River
CRWA will mobilize over 2500 volunteers from over 100 neighborhoods throughout the 35 towns and cities in the watershed from schools, corporations and other non-profits to participate in a multi-site shoreline clean-up. Each year since 2000, CRWA organizes this event with MA Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), The Trustees of Reservations, The Emerald Necklace Conservancy, The Esplanade Association, the City of Newton, Charles River Conservancy and Senator Tolman’s Office. Last year over 32 tons of trash at 40 sites along the 80-mile Charles River and its tributaries were removed. Sponsorship levels begin at $1000. Click here for more information.

River Science Festival at CRWA’s Run of the Charles Canoe and Kayak Race
April 27, 2008 at Herter Park on Soldiers Field Road
This spring, CRWA is inviting thousands to learn more about water quality and quantity issues through the prism of the scientific lens. The exhibitions and activities planned throughout the day will bring pertinent, technical information about the inner workings of water resource planning and urban water design. Bring the whole family to the banks for the Charles for hands-on child-friendly science experiments that make environmental science to life. Click here for more information.
Celebration of the Herring Run and Kiosk Display
Mid-May through mid-June 2008
CRWA is holding a dedication and festive gathering in Watertown to bring attention to a new kiosk on the river, created in a collaboration between CRWA, Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), Massachusetts Corporate Wetlands Restoration Partnership (CWRP), Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries (DMF), Sasaki Associates, Inc., and volunteers Amy Houghton and Jonathan Bryant. As thousands of herring swim upstream to their spawning rounds, we will celebrate all the native species being restored to the cleaner Charles River including the 4.5 million American Shad introduced since 2006. The kiosk showcases fish, ecology, parklands and the health of the Charles River. We are looking for sponsors to enlarge this event to include more public activities for people of all ages. We are hoping to include school groups since this is a powerful opportunity to inspire emerging environmentalists.
Charles River Watershed Association Annual Meeting and Dinner
The Charles River Watershed Association’s Annual Meeting, which takes place each fall, is metro Boston’s premiere river celebration where environmentalists, government and business leaders, philanthropists and boaters and other river recreators from all 35 towns and cities along the Charles River Watershed gather, share, and learn of CRWA’s recent accomplishments. CRWA keeps the ticket price affordable for any member who wishes to attend and offers our dedicated volunteers a reduce price ticket to thank them for their year round water monitoring. Consider becoming a sponsor of this event which is taking place at the Newton Marriott Hotel on Tuesday, November 18, 2008.
