CRWA Membership Benefits
Why contribute?
CRWA is the only organization in New England that protects and preserves water health now and in the future. We focus not only on the river that flows above ground, but also on the aquifers that feed our waterways and the vitally important underground system of streams buried by decades of development and aging sewer and wastewater systems. Your contribution will help insure that all water supplies are monitored, that water quality is constantly improved, and that development restores and protects the healthy relationship between land and water.
What makes us unique?
Since our founding over forty-three years ago, CRWA has led a movement to restore the healthy relationship between water and land. We are the only nonprofit organization that deals with the whole complex of urban, suburban, and rural environments of eastern Massachusetts. Want to swim, fish, boat? Just curious? Only CRWA provides daily on water quality, online or by phone.
How are we doing?
CRWA gets results! Today Boston has wetlands storing water and preventing floods because we won the fight against building levees. The Zakim Bridge spans the river, instead of a multi-lane highway, because of our visionary advocacy. Our urban restoration specialists are presenting major developers with practical designs and technologies to incorporate in their projects to return clean water to the ground, prevent flooding, and mitigate the "heat island effect" from pavement. Four years ago, CRWA received a commission from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to study river health. The report, to be released this spring, will present findings to guide government policies to insure clean, healthy water resources in our country for the next generation. As a nonprofit organization, CRWA asks questions and finds answers with no pressure from any political or special interest group.
Who Supports Us?
You! Our membership reflects our mission, spanning every age and demographic in all 35 towns and communities along the 80 miles of the Charles River from Hopkinton to the Boston Harbor. Your unrestricted support fuels our ability to find scientifically sound solutions to river problems while advocating freely on behalf of the river that belongs to all of us as we work with government regulators.
