On September 27, 2003, eighteen very enthusiastic volunteers showed up at the Waltham Dam to help clear debris from the fish ladder. Department of Conservation and Recreation officials had drained the fish ladder in the days leading up to the event, and the exposed ladder showed the grime and garbage that had accumulated over its lifetime.
The project was part of an ongoing partnership between CRWA and DCR to monitor the conditions and effectiveness of the fish ladders in Watertown and Waltham. Officials also drained the Watertown ladder, but found it to be already fairly clear of debris.
