1)       Volunteers needed for Waltham island cleanup on October 20
Just off the banks of the river by Watermill Center and WCRB there is a once beautiful little island on the Charles River.  The island has been severely abused by folks who decided to build a “squatters’ camp” there; trash now covers the ground, the small wetland area and spills over into the river. We would like to clean it up and we need your help!

On Saturday, October 20, 2007 from 10am to 3pm a group of volunteers from the Charles River Watershed Association, WCRB and Watermill Center businesses will join with the Department of Conservation and Recreation for a cleanup effort. We will meet at the WCRB office at 720 South Street in Waltham. The DCR will provide boats, tools and other equipment to get the job done.  After the cleanup there will be a celebratory barbeque to thank volunteers.

To volunteer or for more information, please contact Rebecca Scibek at Charles River Watershed Association by replying to this email or calling 781-781-0007 x200.

2)        “Greening” Everett Street - Part 2 Workshop on October 17
Last year, the Allston Brighton Green Space Advocates held their first of three street greening workshops.  We are proud to invite you to a follow up meeting to present findings and hear your ideas about creating greener, more pedestrian friendly and environmentally sustainable streets in Allston Brighton!  Please join us on Wednesday October 17, from 6:30-8:30 pm at St. Anthony’s Rectory Basement, 43 Holton Street. For more information or to RSVP, please contact Kate Jordan at (617) 787-3874 ext. 216.
