1)       Come to CRWA’s Annual Meeting on Monday, November 19th

Please join Charles River Watershed Association staff, community advocates, government officials, academics, and river enthusiasts to learn about CRWA’s recent accomplishments at the local, regional and national levels. The event will be held from 5:30 to 9:00pm at the Newton Marriott Hotel.  This year CRWA is honoring the following individuals for their work on behalf of water conservation: Robert Lowell of the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), Todd Borci of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and MA Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Deputy Commissioner Arleen O'Donnell.  Noted river conservationist Tim Palmer will present the keynote address.

Tickets for the Annual Meeting, including a buffet dinner, are $60 for CRWA members and $75 for the general public; CRWA volunteers receive a discount. For more information or to purchase a ticket, visit www.charlesriver.org/annmeeting.html or contact Lorraine at 781-788-0007 x231 or lburke@crwa.org.

2)       CRWA in the Boston Globe
Read “Raining on the drought parade,” an op-ed by CRWA hydrologist Kate Bowditch about sustainable water management. It appeared in the Boston Globe on November 5, 2007.

To read more articles, visit CRWA’s home page at www.charlesriver.org to view a constantly updated list of recent articles (scroll down to “CRWA in the News” in the bottom right corner).

3)        “Greening” Market Street - Part 2: Workshop on November 13
Last summer, CRWA, in partnership with Allston Brighton CDC and Allston Brighton Green Space Advocates (ABGSA), held a series of street greening workshops.  Based on the feedback received, we have started drafting design guidelines for greening three streets in Allston Brighton: Everett Street, Market Street and Brooks Street.  ABGSA members are proud to invite you to an exciting follow-up meeting focused on the Market Street corridor!

Where: Allston Brighton CDC office at 320 Washington St. in Brighton Center When: Tuesday, November 13th from 6:30-8:30pm

Please contact Kate Jordan at jordan@allstonbrightoncdc.org or call 617.787.3874 x216 if you'd like to attend the meeting.  For more information about the Green Street Guidelines Project please contact Pallavi Mande at pmande@crwa.org or call 781-788-0007 x232.

4)       Brown Bag Lunch on Storrow Drive reconstruction: CANCELLED

This Brown Bag, originally scheduled for November 13, 2007, has been cancelled due to the fact that the reconstruction project has been delayed indefinitely.  Click here to read Sunday’s Boston Globe story on this.  CRWA will reschedule this brown bag once more information on the timetable of the construction project is announced.

5)       CRWA Members Save 20% at EMS

Tomorrow and Saturday, CRWA members will receive 20% off everything in all Eastern Mountain Sports (EMS) stores as part of its “Club Days” sale.  One of the nation’s leading outfitters of outdoor gear, apparel, footwear and accessories, EMS is extending this special offer exclusively to members of select outdoor clubs and organizations.  Just print out this email, or bring other proof of CRWA membership to the store.  CRWA representatives will be on hand to sign up new members at EMS’s Harvard Square location at One Brattle Square in Cambridge, on the second floor.
