AGENCIES RELEASING AMERICAN SHAD FRY INTO CHARLES RIVER ON WEDNESDAY
First Returning Adult Shad Seen in River This Year
WHAT: The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Massachusetts Department of Fish and
Game’s Division of Marine Fisheries will release about 3,000,000 American shad fry into the Charles River this year as part of a multi-year effort to restore native shad to the Charles River watershed. Personnel on hand will explain the development of the program, which began in 2006. Adult shad will also be available for viewing and photographs.

WHEN: Wednesday June 29 1:00 p.m.
DIRECTIONS: From Boston: Take I-90 / Mass Pike West toward Worcester. At exit 16, take
ramp right for Route 16 toward W. Newton / Wellesley. Turn right onto Route 16 East / Washington St. Turn left to stay on Route 16 East / Washington St. Bear left onto Elm Street for 0.3 mile. Then bear left onto River Street for 0.6 mile. Road name changes to Rumford Ave. Turn right onto Woerd Ave for 0.2 mile. Boat Launch facility is on the left. If you reach Crescent Street, you've gone too far.
From Route I-95 (coming from the North): Take I-95 South. At exit 26, take ramp right for US-20 / Weston St West toward Waltham. Turn left to stay on US-20 / Weston Street East. Bear right onto Vernon Street, then turn right onto Prospect Street and another right onto Crescent Street. After 0.4 mile, turn right onto Woerd Ave. Boat Launch facility is on the right. If you reach Riverview Ave, you've gone too far.
From I-95 (coming from the South): Take I-95 North. At exit 22, take ramp right for Grove Street toward M.B.T.A. Station. Bear right onto Grove Street. Turn right to stay on Grove Street. Then turn left onto Central Street. Stay straight onto Auburn Street / Richard Allen Likely Bridge for 0.1 mile; then stay straight onto Lexington Street. Turn left onto Rumford Ave. Turn right onto Woerd Ave. The Boat Launch facility is on the left. If you reach Crescent Street, you’ve gone too far.
