Governor Romney to Take Part in the 6th Annual Charles River Earth Day Cleanup

OVER A THOUSAND VOLUNTEERS EXPECTED TO TAKE ACTION

WHAT:  Governor Mitt Romney will join 1,200 volunteers to remove trash and debris from the Charles River and its banks.  Over 50 different volunteer groups from 20 communities in the Charles River watershed will take action to clean up their community waterway. 

WHO:  Governor Mitt Romney;  Janet Domenitz, Executive Director, MASSPIRG;  Robert Zimmerman, Jr., Executive Director, CRWA; Harris Parnell, Program Director, Water Watch (a project of the MASSPIRG Education Fund, AmeriCorps, and MA Service Alliance); Senator Steven Tolman’s Office; Charles River Conservancy; Charles River Stream Team; Esplanade Association; 1,200 volunteers

WHEN: Saturday, April 30th, 9AM – 12PM; Governor will arrive at 9AM

WHERE: Arthur Fiedler Statue near the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) Hatch Shell on the Esplanade, Downtown Boston (directions below).   For other cleanup locations in the watershed, see accompanying list

 

 Directions to the Arthur Fiedler Stature on the Esplanade:

From the Red Line—Charles/MGH stop.  Emerge from the T stop and go over the footbridge toward the Charles River.  Walk along the path with the river at your right.  You will pass Community Sailing Pavilion and Union Club Boathouse on your right.  Right after passing the Hatch Shell and across from the concession stand, take a right over the footbridge.  The Arthur Fielder statue will be in front of you.
