CRWA's Canoe and Kayak Paddling Guide

CRWA’s Charles River Canoe and Kayak Guide is a must for anyone interested in exploring the Charles River, one of eastern Massachusetts’s most scenic rivers. It’s packed with useful information about a variety of paddling easily accessible along 78 miles of the river — from the pastoral meanderings in the upper reaches to the bustling water park between Boston and Cambridge.

Buy it at the CRWA online store.

Designed to be easily referenced on the water, the handy guide contains maps of ten river segments that are suitable for paddling. Accompanying text describes good access points, hazards, scenic spots, points of interest, boat rental outlets, and more. River mile indicators on the maps help paddlers gauge distances accurately.

CRWA produced the guide largely with donated services and grant support. Funding was provided by Crossroads Community Foundation, Fields Pond Foundation, and the William P. Wharton Trust. Paratore Hartshorn communication + design contributed complimentary design services. Mapworks produced the maps at a substantial discount. Yupo Corp. donated waterproof paper, and Pride Printers printed the guide at cost. Assistance was provided by a number of paddling enthusiasts, CRWA directors, and staff from the Metropolitan Park Commission (now Department of Conservation and Recreation) and Charles River Canoe and Kayak.
