Development Manager

Charles River Watershed Association (CRWA), an internationally recognized environmental advocacy nonprofit based in Boston, MA, is seeking a Development Manager to join our innovative and growing team. The Development Manager is a newly created position and represents an expansion of our Development Team. The Manager will report to the Development Director and play a vital role in enabling CRWA to expand our work protecting and restoring the Charles River and its watershed lands with a focus on environmental equity as we confront a changing climate. Donor Solicitation & Engagement
  • Manage all aspects of the mass/grassroots donor engagement strategy, including enrollment, cultivation, solicitation, and communications (identified as $1,000 and under)
  • Serve as the lead fundraiser for a portfolio of 100-150 mid-level donors and prospects and feed the prospect pipeline regularly
  • Establish a metrics-driven strategy for their portfolio and work toward annual growth goals predetermined by the ED and Director of Development
  • Support Director of Development with cultivation and engagement strategies for current and prospective individual and corporate donors
  • Cultivate relationships with current or lapsed donors and grow their annual giving
  • Identify and pursue speaking opportunities in associations, small groups, corporations, and other groups that consist of the annual fund donor persona
  • Develop, manage, and oversee all aspects of the corporate giving program, working closely with program staff to provide effective cultivation and stewardship activities with current and prospective corporate partners to grow the corporate giving program, resulting in annual revenue growth year after year 
  • Work with finance and program team to gather information necessary to report to corporate funders on current grant programs
  • Provide stewardship engagement opportunities and regular impact updates, and prompt responses to corporate donors 
  • Manage and carry out general (i.e., not technical) support grant applications and reports
  • Collaborate with and support CRWA Board Development Committee

Event Management
  • Manage planning and execution of CRWA events and committee/board meetings, including preparation and management of invitation lists, calendar invites, event/meeting materials, event mailings, and coordinating details with vendors
  • Plan and implement donor/partner tours and networking events 

Communication Support
  • Manage fundraising campaigns and appeals, vendors, and timelines, and coordinate the production and distribution of recurring appeals and stewardship materials
  • Assist with the writing and editing of appeals, sponsorship packets, acknowledgments, donor news, reports, and proposals 
  • Ensure professional, timely, and consistent communication with donors, consistent with the overall development strategy

Qualifications
  • Multi-lingual and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience preferred
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks with strong attention to detail and follow-through
  • Flexibility and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative and fast-paced environment
  • At least 5–7 years of experience in fundraising in a nonprofit setting preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Proven ability to achieve annual revenue targets in the nonprofit sector or comparable sales role
  • Exposure to the process of how relationships with donors and potential donors are formed and cultivated toward contributing to financial growth
  • Effective time management and task prioritization in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrate technical competency and capacity to learn new software systems
  • Knowledge of GSuite, Google Docs and Google Sheets, and fundraising database systems (Donor Perfect) preferred
  • Capable of working independently and taking initiative 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate the mission of CRWA

Compensation and Benefits
Salary is $65,000–$80,000, depending on qualifications and experience. This is a full-time, exempt position. CRWA offers generous health care and vacation benefits, a flexible, supportive, and family-friendly work environment, and a commitment to continued professional development.
