Seasonal Field Work Coordinator

The Charles River Watershed Association (CRWA), an environmental non-profit organization based in Weston, MA, seeks an energetic outdoors enthusiast to serve as the part-time, Seasonal Field Work Coordinator for our river science programs. Through these programs, CRWA staff members and interns collect water quality samples to monitor river health. This staff member will focus on providing support for the seasonal flagging, cyanobacteria, and invasive plant cleanup programs.

​The field work coordinator will work between 8 and 24 hours per week between May and September, and must be available on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings. The position requires performing physical labor outdoors in all weather conditions and includes potential weekend and evening hours.

Duties Include:​
  • Taking water quality measurements and samples from boats and shore focused in the Charles River Lower Basin
  • Delivering water samples to labs in the Greater Boston area
  • Processing cyanobacteria samples using basic scientific equipment
  • Assisting with invasive plant cleanup events conducted on land and in canoes throughout the Charles River Watershed
  • Coordinating with CRWA staff and interns to create a field sampling schedule
  • Updating CRWA standard operating procedures and protocols
  • Maintaining, organizing, and calibrating field equipment
  • Organizing and processing water quality data
  • Maintaining all necessary records for CRWA’s program management and accounting files.

The Successful Candidate Will:
  • Have strong organization and communication skills.
  • Possess an interest in environmental management and/or water issues.
  • Have or be able to obtain a current driver’s license, CPR, and basic first aid training.
  • Be able to lift 50 pounds.

Additional Qualifications:
  • Access to a car is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with field work, boating, and/or water quality sampling are a plus.
