The Future of the Charles River

For over 50 years, Charles River Watershed Association (CRWA) has been a leader in the protection and restoration of the Charles River. CRWA has been the voice of the river, promoting resilience and expanding access to the river, making sure it is healthy for all. With new and mounting pressures from a changing climate, how can we ensure that the Charles will be protected over the next 50 years?

By making a Planned Gift, you can provide CRWA with a solid Financial Foundation to ensure the health of the Charles River for generations to come. You have the power to influence the future.

A Planned Gift is an investment in the health of the Charles River that allows CRWA to respond to unforeseen events, seize new opportunities, and improve environmental conditions through community engagement and partnerships. When you make CRWA part of your estate plan, you leave a lasting impact.

THE RITA BARRON GIVING SOCIETY

Picture
In 1973, Rita Barron became the second Executive Director of Charles River Watershed Association. Mrs. Barron had a vision and a determination that the Charles could be transformed from a dumping ground of industrial waste and sewage into, what she liked to call, the People’s River—a place where communities could come together on the river to swim and play. A fearless leader, Mrs. Barron was a true champion for the river’s rebirth.

The Rita Barron Giving Society honors individuals who have chosen to leave a legacy to support CRWA's mission to protect and preserve the Charles River. When you make a gift to CRWA from your will or trust, you'll be welcomed into the Rita Barron Giving Society and join other members being honored for creating their Charles River legacies.

By joining the Rita Barron Giving Society, you share Mrs. Barron’s vision for a fully restored, fully protected, healthy, resilient Charles River watershed. “Clean” is not an endpoint, it’s a verb—and it will forever be our unwavering mission.

WAYS TO GIVE

BEQUEST
  • A bequest is a gift made by naming Charles River Watershed Association as a beneficiary in your will. It could be included in a new will or added to an existing will or living trust. Making a bequest is a great way to support CRWA while generating income for yourself and your family. One of the great things about bequests is that they can always be modified at a later date, and your assets remain available to you should you need them. Learn more about specific kinds of bequests and view our sample bequest language.
CHARITABLE GIFT ANNUITY
  • A Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA) allows you to provide a gift to Charles River Watershed Association in exchange for a fixed income payment for life. Various types of charitable remainder trusts also provide income to a donor and/or someone the donor designates.
CHARITABLE IRA ROLLOVER
  • An IRA rollover allows individuals 70 ½ or older to make tax-free IRA charitable rollover gifts directly from their retirement accounts to Charles River Watershed Association. Learn more about IRA charitable rollovers.
