Carbon Neutral - Charles River Watershed Association

Carbon Neutral

Refers to when steps are taken to ensure a project’s or product’s net carbon output is zero. This takes into account the amount of carbon dioxide released as a result, and undertaking steps to offset those emissions through steps like planting trees and supporting forest growth. Burning fossil fuels adds additional carbon to the earth’s carbon cycle because it involves digging up buried or sequestered sources of carbon. Ethanol, or corn fuel, uses carbon already present in the current carbon cycle.
