Greenhouse Effect - Charles River Watershed Association

Greenhouse Effect

Gases in the atmosphere, such as carbon dioxide and methane, absorb heat radiated from the earth’s surface and reflect back to the earth’s surface, effectively trapping heat in our atmosphere which is what allows the planet to support life. However, with the accumulation of excess greenhouse gases in the atmosphere from the burning of fossil fuels, this can result in a higher temperature or more extreme weather around the globe.
