$2M for Invasive Species Removal in the Charles River

Thanks to leadership from Rep. Kay Khan (Newton), the economic development bill, An Act relating to economic growth and relief for the Commonwealth (H.5007), currently moving through the legislature would provide $2 Million for invasive species management in the Charles River.

This critical funding would allow a more effective approach to invasive plant management than has been possible previously. Additionally, DCR is moving forward with low-dose ProcellaCOR herbicide treatment for the Lakes District & Lower Basin, which consistently suffer the effects of Eurasian watermilfoil infestations. This is the first step in our 5-year management plan to restore native plants and improve water quality in the Charles River.
