Biological Monitoring Intern
CRWA's internship positions are open to all individuals who are looking to kick-start their career in water. Internships offer training in a variety of areas, including environmental science, climate resilience, advocacy, and education, and provide individuals with an opportunity to be part of an exciting and dynamic team. All internships are available to students earning academic credit or a stipend from an educational program to participate.
CRWA’s Biological Monitoring internship offers on-the-job training in a variety of watershed management tasks in support of our River Science program. Areas of focus for the Biological Monitoring intern will primarily assist in the planning, operation, and management of CRWA’s Biological Monitoring program. They will aid in conducting habitat assessments, sampling for macroinvertebrates, identifying macroinvertebrates, and volunteer management. There will also be opportunities for this intern to participate in other River Science and Restoration projects as needed.
This internship will have regular fieldwork opportunities, and applicants should be comfortable working outdoors and inclement weather conditions and on uneven terrain and lifting and carrying equipment up to 40lbs.
Potential Skills Gained:
Learn about water quality and environmental issues
Professional experience working with a non-profit organization
Volunteer engagement and communications
Benthic macroinvertebrate sampling
Identification of benthic macroinvertebrates to genus level
Sharing science with the public
Desired Qualifications:
Prior experience or coursework in Biology, Entomology, Environmental Science, Taxonomy, or a related field
Ability to Identify insects to the Order level is a plus
Willingness to learn and ability to work independently
Strong attention to detail
An interest in environmental and water quality issues
Experience with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
Access to a car and a valid driver’s license preferred but not required
