9,700 Pounds of Water Chestnut Removed

Over the last three summers, CRWA has helped manage the invasive water chestnut (Trapa natans) presence in the Redwing Bay area of the Charles River in Dover and Needham. This summer, regrowth was severely reduced at the start of the season, allowing us to clear both coves completely after only the first few weeks. After clearing Redwing Bay, we began work in the Lakes District of the Charles, as an unanticipated amount of water chestnut growth popped up at this location this year. Throughout the season, we worked with over 150 volunteers to remove approximately 9,700+ pounds of water chestnut from the Charles. Thank you to all the volunteers who pitched in!
