Grateful for YOU saying “No more sewage in the Charles!”
In this season of gratitude, we are thankful for the 9,000 people who have written emails, signed petitions, or made calls telling the MWRA it’s time to “cut the crap.” Thanks to YOU, the MWRA Board of Directors tabled their vote scheduled for November 19. (As a reminder, the MWRA Board was going to vote on a recommendation from MWRA staff that the Charles River be re-classified as a “Class B-CSO” river, which would allow the MWRA and the cities of Cambridge and Somerville to dump sewage into it, forever.)
We also appreciate the elected leaders from Newton and Waltham who spoke up for a clean Charles, and the 50+ environmental and river organizations who signed onto a letter urging the MWRA board of directors to reject the proposal - Mass Audubon, The Nature Conservancy, Sierra Club, Trout Unlimited, and more - read the whole list here.
It’s not too late to make your voice heard! Send a pre-written message to MWRA.
We did not spend forty years and hundreds of millions of dollars to clean up the Charles, to give up now and even go backwards. In the spirit of the giving season, please consider making a gift TODAY to help us pressure MWRA to reverse course and make the necessary investments to finally eliminate these disgusting sewage discharges.
