Read press coverage in The Boston Globe, WGBH, and The Harvard Crimson—Water Authority Considers Removing Charles River’s Safe-to-Swim Status To Allow Sewer Overflows

On October 29, the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA) unveiled its legally obligated updated plan for addressing combined sewer overflows (CSOs) in the Charles River: do next to nothing! Rather than undertake the projects needed to end CSOs, MWRA staff told their Board of Directors that the best path forward is to continue dumping more sewage in the Charles River forever.

CRWA submitted a letter expressing our outrage at MWRA staff’s recommendation, and shared this video of CRWA Executive Director Emily Norton’s remarks to the MWRA Board reiterating our stance.
