2025 Herring Run in Review!

A Blueback Herring in Watertown by Volunteer Photographer Kathy Diamond.

Summer is in full swing, and the annual herring run is finished. Last month marked the end of CRWA’s fish monitoring field season, and the numbers are in! From April to June, our fish monitoring volunteers directly observed 80,033 fish. The Division of Marine Fisheries (DMF) estimated the number of herring passing through the Watertown Dam fish ladder, calculated from our volunteer data, was about 300,000 herring, marking the largest fish count to date. Thank you to all of the amazing volunteers who made this possible.
