Action Alert: Act Before May 19 To Protect Mass Parks & Environmental Agencies From Funding Cuts

It is budget season, and unfortunately, our air, water, and lands are under attack.

The Governor and the MA House have each approved a FY27 budget that slashes funding for environmental agencies. Now it is the MA Senate’s turn, and theirs is the worst one yet. PLEASE take action today to call on your state senator to support these amendments to restore vital funding for key agencies, in particular the MA Dept. of Environmental Protection (DEP) and the MA Dept. of Conservation and Recreation (DCR).

Urge your State Senator to support:

  • Amendment #315 (filed by Senator Will Brownsberger) increases DCR funding for state parks and recreation by $1M, raising the total budget to ~$105.7M. This will support trails, campgrounds, and outdoor recreation programs that our residents rely on statewide.

  • Amendment #323 (filed by Senator Jamie Eldridge) fully funds DCR State Parks & Recreation Operations at $113.8 million to maintain parks, forests, flood resilience programs, and wildfire response capacity.

  • Amendment #324 (filed by Senator Jamie Eldridge) increases funding for DCR seasonal properties by over $833,000, supporting beaches, pools, campgrounds, and other seasonal recreation facilities across the state.

  • Amendment #336 (filed by Senator Lydia Edwards) fully funds the Office of Environmental Justice & Equity at $6.2M to ensure vulnerable communities are protected from pollution and included in climate decision-making.

  • Amendment #370 (filed by Senator Rebecca Rausch) fully funds MassDEP Administration at $53.7M to protect clean water, enforce PFAS standards, and support stormwater and wastewater infrastructure.

Send a message of support to your Senator asking them to support these vital amendments to invest in our parks and the environmental agencies. Take action before the MA Senate takes up the bill on Tuesday, May 19!
