Bank Planting Begins at Cheesecake Brook

Bank improvements are underway at Cheesecake Brook and we couldn’t be more excited to see the results of a 2-year project finally come to life. On Thursday, April 30th, The City of Newton commenced the milestone work with a Community Planting Day in partnership with CRWA and the X-Cel Conservation Corps. Corps members had the opportunity to learn about the importance of green stormwater infrastructure the day before the planting with Climate Resilience Engagement Associate, Joanna Argudo, then put what they learned into practice the next day. Although the weather wasn’t ideal for tree planting, participants powered through the cold, rainy day and saw the impact of green stormwater infrastructure first-hand.

If you find yourself curious about the bank improvements along Cheesecake Brook, help document this transformation by snapping a picture at one of the installed chronolog stations at the footbridge and/or Crafts Street. With this information, we’ll be able to make a time-lapse of the project as plantings and improvements start to settle into their new home!
