Six Ways You Can Celebrate National Rivers Month
June is National Rivers Month, an opportunity to celebrate the beauty of our rivers and the importance of vital freshwater systems. Looking for ways you can help protect our watershed this June? We have some ideas to get you started:
Advocate For Water Protection
Massachusetts legislature has until the end of August to vote on three pieces of legislation that would improve the watershed’s resilience to climate change:
The CSO Elimination Bill (H.1046)
This National Rivers Month, join our effort to advocate for climate resilience and clean water. Visit our Legislation page to contact your legislators and ask them to support these bills.
2. Volunteer With Us
You can make a difference in your local watershed by volunteering your time. Whether you join us in removing invasive plants, monitoring benthic microinvertebrates in tributaries, or counting the number of migrating herring at the Watertown Dam, volunteering with CRWA is a great way to have a positive impact, enjoy the summer weather, and connect with fellow river lovers.
3. Attend A CRWA Event
We are hosting many events this June throughout National Rivers Month! Join us at any of our events to hear about CRWA’s mission, learn about ongoing projects, and meet with the experts working to protect, restore, and enhance the Charles River.
4. Make A Gift
Invest in our beloved river! By donating to the Charles River Watershed Association, you are helping to ensure a clean and resilient Charles River watershed for all who call it home. Your donation will directly support our efforts to enhance climate resilience, protect public health, and promote environmental equity in the 35 communities across the Charles River watershed.
5. Sign Our Cut The Crap Petition To End Sewage Discharges
Despite being illegal under the Clean Water Act, millions of gallons of sewage are still discharged into the Charles River. We are fighting to eliminate combined sewage overflows and hold polluters accountable. Celebrate National Rivers Month by signing our petition and joining us in telling officials to Cut the Crap.
