Watershed Enters Level 3 Drought

On May 22, Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) Secretary Rebecca Tepper declared a Level 3 - Critical Drought - in Northeast Massachusetts, including the Charles River watershed. Residents and businesses are encouraged to minimize water use, stop non-essential outdoor watering, and comply with local water restrictions.

Please take action to encourage our legislature to pass the Drought Bill so that state leaders have greater authority to protect water supplies during droughts! (This Action Alert from April is still relevant!) Droughts cause streams to dry up, harming fish and other wildlife, and increasing fire risk.

Explore the state’s drought resources for more information.

If you're interested in helping CRWA monitor water levels in streams/tributaries across the watershed, email CRWA's Volunteer & Outreach Manager, Ryan, at rsmith@crwa.org.
